THE
ETERNALS THE MOVIES
by Renaud Bédard

We are not
alone, living among us, they call themselves the Eternals. Created by
Jack Kirby, this race of superhuman beings, an evolutionary offshoot of
humanity first came into existence million of years ago when the
Celestials, a ancient extraterrestrial race came to Earth long ago, and
performed genetic experiments on the nascent human race, some say in
reality artificially accelerating the natural evolution of man and bring
a few individuals to their full potential; but at first the changes laid
dormant, and only years later did the Eternals’ genetic potential
started to appear, from extraordinarily powers and physical strength to
virtual invulnerability to just about anything, along with what they
discovered over time to be possessing immensely long unbelievable
lifespans. With the power of flight and regeneration, with some even
having the power of illusion and teleportation; and their biggest
vulnerability of being overwhelmed by breaking their mental hold. There
enemies, the Deviants, also a down chute from the Celestials, an
experiment that went wrong, an ever-changing and destructive failure

IKARIS -
Ikaris was born twenty thousand years ago in the Eternal city
of Polaria. While he was still a child, his uncle Valkin entrusted him
with the keys to the Pyramid of teh winds, a mysterious structure that
Valkin and Phasots had built deep below the ice of the Arctic for
storage of deadly weapons. Ikaris guards the Pyramid with his keys to
this day. Ikaris mingled with many humans over the course of his life,
including marrying more than one of them over the years, and one child
of his spawned the Greek legend of Icarus. Ikaris was among those
Eternals who elected to remain on Earth after their first encounter with
the Celestials. Ikaris took over leadership of the Eternals once his
sister Thena revealed her love for the Deviant, Kro

SERSI -
Daughter of Helios and Perse, Sersi is from a much later generation
of Eternals; based in ancient Greece, where she met the poet, Homer, who would
later write one of the earliest works in Western literature, The
Odyssey; the character Circe, who lived on an island in the Aegean
called Aeaea, and turned the hero, Ulysses, and his men into pigs, was
based on Sersi. Unlike the majority of her fellow Eternals, who stay in
their hidden cities, Sersi revels in her humanity, and has lived among
ordinary humans more than any others; and from ancient Greece to Nero's
Rome, Sersi traveled to many regions of the world, and lived in various
places of historical importance
- MAKKARI -
Also born from a later generation of Eternals,
Makkari is three thousand years old, but he retains an adolescent
fervor, especially for his interest in building and riding vehicles that
move faster than he himself can with his superhuman powers. In the days
of ancient Greece and Rome, Makkari was often mistaken for Mercury, the
swift-flying messenger of the gods

THE FORGOTTEN ONE -
Son
of Lugalbanda and Ninsun, Gilgamesh was a mighty warrior who became
the king of Uruk. Feared by many for his enormous strength, and
master of various forms of armed combat, The Forgotten One could ably
wield and forge swords, axes and spears, and he often wore a suit of
armor. At some point in his life the Forgotten One was blinded by
unknown means, but this injury was apparently healed. While he was
blind, he would use his cosmic senses to interact with his
environment, along with the aid of Sprite
-
SPRITE -
Sprite
is a playful prankster who has spent centuries developing his
particular sense of humor. William Shakespeare based his character
Puck on Sprite hundreds of years ago. Sprite chose to remain on Earth
following the Uni-Mind's departure because he felt he would have more
fun here than abroad. He released the Forgotten One from exile to
combat the Deviants, and it was he who once accidently shifted the
entire city of Olympia into the Negative Zone temporarily
-
CHI DEMON -
Chi
Demon devoted large amounts of time to the study of both combat and
sociology. She lectures at the University of California at Berkeley
under the alias of Professor King. Of particular interest to her is
the fostering of tolerance among humankind, be it toward mutants,
Deviants, or Eternals
- ZURAS -
Elder
son of Kronos of the first generation of Eternals, also father of
Thena, and revered leader of The Eternals, Zuras has vast powers, so
much that he never needed to develop any hand-to-hand combat
techniques, and his knowledge of ancient wisdom is immense. He
possesses the ability to manipulate cosmic energy to augment his life
force granting him great longevity and regenerative abilities; he can
also create force shields around himself, to levitate himself and
others, manipulate molecules and transform objects, along with
telepathy, illusion-casting, and teleportation. Zuras is also capable
of initiating the creation of the Uni-Mind, the collective life-form
resulting from the physical and mental merging of a significant number
of Eternals
-
CYBELE -
Cybele
is a second-generation Eternal, the wife of Zuras and mother of Thena.
Since the demise of her husband some years ago, Cybele has kept to
herself, choosing not to become involved in the matters of Eternals,
Deviants, or humans. The rare occasions when she does become involved
usually involve some threat to her beloved daughter Thena
-
THENA -
Daughter of Zuras
and Cybele, Azura changes her name by royal decree to Thena, and after
the death of her father she became for a long time leader of the
Eternals. Also known as Corona, none has so often in
the past been mistaken for the Olympian goddess Athena for her great
beauty. Thena's special abilities make her one of the most
powerful of the Eternals, she is a fifth-level adept on a five-level
scale at the discipline of projecting cosmic energy, and she can
fly via self-levitation at an incredible rate of speed most other
Eternals cannot match. Thena
has psionic abilities which enable her to engage in simple telepathic
communication with other persons and to scan the thoughts of any human
or certain Eternal minds. She can also teleport herself or
other individuals psionically, and she has inherited from he
father the ability to initiate on her own the creation of the
Uni-Mind, the collective life form resulting from the physical and
mental merging of a significant number of Eternals
- THE
REJECT & KARKAS -
Rejected and even feared by what is left of the Deviant empire
living under the ocean floor, the too far gone mutated and unwanted of
their civilization become gladiators in their arena in fights from the
death, and through their entire existence learn only to kill each
other. One known only as the Reject, with his only crime of not
looking Deviant enough and reminding too much of humans and Eternals;
he is forced to cover his face among them and fights for his very life
in the arena against impossible adversaries, but never the less he
survives. There is also this scary looking colossal red monster
Karkas, force to also live out his existence in the arena; and it is
one Eternal daughter of Zuras, Thena herself, that delivers them both
from Deviant tyranny to become heroes, instead of senseless killing
machines for barbaric bloody entertainment
-
DROMEDAN -
With his powerful mental commands, the brain-snatcher is a product
of the once Deviant empire at its former height, before they defied
The Celestials themselves and saw their civilization reduced to hashes
and were forced into hiding beneath the sea. Bred to destroy the
Eternals themselves, with destructive mind control, the one known as
Dromedan, was entombed alive by its very own creators for fear of
their own safety
