Spawn is or was Al Simmons, a former Marine Corp Officer, then the government made him their best covert operative, where Simmons became an extremely effective killing machine against extremism and crime, but eventually he was deceived by Jason Wynn, his superior, who had him killed during a false cover action by a colleague named Chapel, that set him on fire; and because of his misdeeds in life, Al ended up in Hell. But Simmons had left behind Wanda, a wife he dearly loved, so he made a deal with the master of the Eighth Circle of Hell, where he would return to Earth in exchange of becoming the leader of their armies; but true to evil form, Malebolgia twisted the deal, returning him to Earth five years after he died, with the scares and burns in his face, and he discovered that his wife had remarried to his best friend Terry Fitzgerald, who had comforted her after he was killed, and together they had a young daughter. Not wanting to hurt them, Al decided not to let them know who he was, and instead taking up residence in an alley amongst the detritus of humanity, and Al renounced his deal with Malebolgia, feeling that the devil had broken their pact with trickery; but Hell would refuse to let him go so easily, and would send evil agent like the Violator to try to bring him back. With a living suit that protects and can cloak him, Spawn also has the ability to teleport and transform, all with superhuman strength; however when he uses these powers too much, he drains the limited amount he was granted with, and if that is gone, he will be returned to Hell. But where this could get even more interesting would be after draining all his power to save countless innocents, as the gates of Hell would start to open beneath him, an other would open above him, with the hero being pulled up into the heavens, where he would be given a second chance, and be returned back to Earth with the powers of Hell and Heaven combined, and with angel wings of redemption

Spawn est ou était Al Simmons, autrefois officier du Corps de la Marine, alors que le gouvernement fit de lui un agent secret, où Simmons devient une machine à tuer des plus efficace contre l'extrémisme et le crime; mais éventuellement il fût trompé par Jason Wynn, son supérieur, qui le fit tuer dans une fausse opération secrète par son collègue nommée Chapel, qui le mit en feu; et à cause de ses méfaits durant sa vie, Al descendit en Enfer. Mais Simmons avait laissé derrière Wanda, sa femme qu'il aimait profondément, alors il fut une entente avec le maître du Huitième Cercle de l’Enfer, où il retournerait sur Terre en échange de devenir le chef de leurs armées; mais fidèle à la réputation diabolique, Malebolgia déforma l'entente, le retournant sur Terre cinq années après sa mort, avec les cicatrices et brûlures dans son visage, et découvrant que sa femme s'était remarié avec son meilleur ami Terry Fitzgerald qui l'avait consolé après sa mort, et ensemble ils eurent une jeune fille. Ne voulant pas leurs causer de tord, Al décida de ne pas leur dire qui il était, et plutôt de prendre résidence dans une ruelle avec les détritusses de l'humanité, et Al renonça à son entente avec Malebolgia, sentant que le Diable avait brisé le pacte avec de la tricherie; mais l'Enfer refuserait de le laisser aller si facilement, et envoierait des agents du mal tel Violator (le Violateur) pour tenter de le ramener. Avec un costume vivant qui le protège et le camoufle, Spawn a aussi l'habilité de se téléporter et de se transformer, le tout avec une force surhumaine; malgré qu'en utilisant trop ses pouvoirs, il drainerait le montant limité qui lui fut accordé, et si cela venait à arriver, il devrait retourner en Enfer. Mais là où ceci pourrait devenir encore plus intéressant, serait après avoir tout drainé son pouvoir pour sauver un nombre d'innocents innombrables, alors que les barrières de l'Enfer commenceraient à s'ouvrir sous lui, une autre s'ouvrirait au-dessus de lui, avec le héros étant soulevé vers le haut dans les ceux, où ont lui donnerait une seconde chance, en le retournant sur Terre avec les pouvoirs de l'Enfer et du Paradis combinés, ainsi qu'avec des ailes d'ange de la rédemption
