SUB-MARINER THE MOVIES
by Renaud Bédard

Right up front in the beginning
of any Sub-Mariner related movies, just after
whatever title of any possible interpretations, if anyone has any
respect for anything, those words should always appear, based
on Bill Everett, and the name of the original creator that started
it all should be honored, always
A first Sub-Mariner movie should show a bit of the origin of
Atlantis itself, where thousands of years ago because of volcanoes and
earthquakes all possibly caused by an ancient war, and
Atlantis eventually broken and sinking bellow the sea killing most of
its habitants and leaving only very few survivors to a very
different evolutionary course, forced to adapt living in the middle of
the ocean and eventually beneath it. Then in the 1920's, a ship
from above unknowingly causing chaos for the underwater people
bellow, forced the daughter of the old Emperor Thakorr to take
action on her own, despite her father's opposition not wanting
to attract attention and possibly reveal their world bellow.
Found on the ship, Princess Fen warned of the danger and eventually
fell in love with Captain Leonard McKenzie; but the honeymoon was short
lived, as an forces of Atlanteans lead by the ambitious Krang would
attack the humans making no quarters, and forcing back the Princess to
her world bellow, where month after she gave birth to little boy half
human and half Atlantean which she named Namor
Also in this
first movie, the very first Sub-Mariner story published in Marvel Comics
issue #1 1939 could be shown, as Namor would come face to face with
deep-sea divers in metallic suits and flame torches; it could all be
over an environment problem with polluters and toxic wastes dumped on
the floor of the ocean forcing Namor with symbolic tattoos of ankle
wings to defend the very existence of his own people living bellow
-
SUB-MARINER VERSUS ORIGINAL HUMAN TORCH -
In this movie could appear two of the
greatest golden age Marvel icons, Jim Hammond the original Human Torch
and Namor The Sub-Mariner, with the classic confrontation between the
forces of water and fire, and maybe someday the Human Torch or
Sub-Mariner could return the favor each in their own films with
different angles and perspectives from the opposite points of views,
where on the Human Torch side Namor would be the bad guy and on the
Sub-Mariner side Human Torch would be the enemy. Namor would be hero to
some and baddie to others for defending his world from the chemical and
sonar pollution of surface men, versus Human Torch, hero to some and
baddie to others for defending his city and country against attacks as
well, kind of like the situation in today's world as a parallel to wars
and environmental problems; Namor the Sub-Mariner from a cross with a
very long lifespan race adapted to the ocean, and the original Human
Torch, machine on the surface created and at first feared by surface men
for his power, but deep down more human that most human beings
-
WORLD WAR TWO ERA -
I
see the world above at war with each other again, using even more
dangerous deadly weapons and advanced technology, all disturbing the
underworld ocean peace, until one from bellow known as the Sub-Mariner
has enough and decides to attack every war vessels in the region causing
all that commotion; and his fight would take him to the shores of one
country where he would eventually have to face one of their original
champion, the Human Torch
-
SUB-MARINER BLACK -
A chance
in the attitude of the Sub-Mariner could be
explained after the war with the lose of someone very
close and important to him and his family, like the death of
Namora, a cousin, but also a very intimate close personal
friend; poisoned by the Lemerian princess Llyra, the lose
might have affected deeply Namor for the rest of his life,
seeing the whole world very differently with a darker heart. And if
anyone is wondering, yes, this is also a suggestion for a comic book
hardcover Sub-Mariner graphic novel in the same Blue, Yellow or
Gray style, this one Black, to tie in together different periods in
the life of the Sub-Mariner and explain the hero at times, but also the
political pressures of the underworld, and the destructive rage all at
once. At some point during the very formation of the Avengers before
Captain America was found, maybe someone like Thor could have
faced Namor and at least try to reason with him, where the
opening for a great spectacular modern day cameo
